Dynon Road Accident: Child Died, Others Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash in Melbourne VIC

Child Killed and Several Others Injured in Major Four-Vehicle Crash on Dynon Road

A young girl has died, and several other people have been injured following a devastating four-vehicle collision in West Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to Dynon Road just before 4:30 p.m. on June 17 after receiving reports of a serious crash involving four vehicles. The collision occurred on a busy stretch of road between Lloyd Street and Dryburgh Street, prompting a major emergency response and the closure of the roadway in both directions.

Despite the efforts of first responders, a female child travelling in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child’s death has left investigators working to piece together the circumstances that led to the tragic collision, with detectives from Victoria Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit now leading the inquiry.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle carrying the deceased child, a man, suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital for urgent treatment. A second child who was travelling in the same vehicle was also taken to the hospital in a critical condition.

Two additional passengers from that vehicle—a woman and another child—were transported to the hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

The collision also left the occupants of the other vehicles injured.

The male driver and sole occupant of a second vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the female driver of a third vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The male driver and sole occupant of a fourth vehicle was also transported to the hospital, suffering non-life-threatening injuries.

The severity of the crash prompted a significant emergency response, with police, firefighters, paramedics, and specialist investigators attending the scene. Investigators spent hours examining the wreckage, documenting evidence, and speaking with witnesses in an effort to determine what caused the collision.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, and the exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

The incident was so traumatic that fire crews who responded to the scene will be offered specialized psychological support services in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Road closures remained in place throughout the evening as investigators conducted their work. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and use Footscray Road as an alternative route while emergency personnel managed the scene.

Victoria Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to come forward and assist investigators.

The Major Collision Investigation Unit continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.

The tragedy marks another devastating loss on Victoria’s roads and serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety for all motorists and passengers.
