A 17-year-old girl is receiving hospital treatment after being stabbed in Brierfield, Lancashire, prompting a major police response and the arrest of a suspect.
Lancashire Police said officers were called to Wood Street at approximately 3:06 p.m. on reports that a teenage girl had suffered a stab wound to the back of her neck.
Armed officers were deployed to the scene, where a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in police custody while investigations continue.
Emergency services treated the teenager before she was taken to hospital. Police said her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
In a statement, Lancashire Police acknowledged concerns within the community following the incident and confirmed that additional patrols would be operating in the area.
“We know that this will cause alarm in the local community and extra patrols will be in the area this evening to provide reassurance,” a force spokesperson said.
Detectives are continuing their inquiries and have appealed for witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw the incident or has relevant CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell camera footage is urged to contact Lancashire Police.
